Information For Authors
Submission Schedule and Editorial Process:
Articles for the October 2025 issue will be accepted between July 1-August 1, 2025. Following that time frame, submissions will be closed until the next publishing cycle. The number of submissions has greatly increased during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. We may need to establish a wait list for accepted articles, if the capacity of the next issue is reached. Subject to the number of accepted articles, we anticipate the next issue to be published in June 2025.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF SUBMISSION: Upon submission of an article, the designated first/corresponding author will instantaneously receive an e-mail acknowledgement; that will contain a four-digit number –part of the doi identifier. This number will be used by the editors and authors in the subject line to track all correspondence. Following submission –all correspondence will occur via e-mail (not the back-end of the journal).
FIRST ORDER REVIEW: Within approximately 3-4 weeks after submission, the editors will inform the primary author if the article is appropriate for a second order review and potential publication. This is to avoid delaying progression of an article that is not appropriate nor likely to be accepted. References (in-text and reference list) must be APA7 compliant for the article to progress to a second order review. Articles that require extensive editing will not be accepted. An authors’ name, any clinical certification, highest degree, institution(s) and e-mail must be accurately entered into the submission system in the exact order the name will appear upon publication. Verify the data with authors before submitting the article. Failure to do so will result in not progressing to the next review.
SECOND ORDER REVIEW: External reviewers will be assigned in this phase. The review process is anonymous. Comments and a decision will be sent via e-mail within approximately 3-4 weeks. Please remember, all editors and reviewers are volunteers; please be patient.
REVISIONS: Revisions are requested for most “accepted” articles: some minor, some major. At the least, authors will remove de-identification and add the authors and their institutions, as per the IJT format (see prior articles). After the revised article is received by Dr. Ellen Cohn via e-mail, the content will be “light edited” and later templated.
FINAL AUTHOR APPROVAL: Authors are responsible for approving the final templated and edited version. Changes following publication are to be strictly avoided. They cannot be published until the next issue, in approximately 5-6 months with an Erratum that will be attached to an article, forever.
MAINTAINING COMMUNICATIONS: There are many possible sources of error related to submissions and responses. If you sense delays in any of the above communications, please contact editor Ellen Cohn, immediately: ecohn@pitt.edu
